Wi-Fi Hotspots around Lake Tahoe!

CommunityConnect service brings wireless broadband to your favorite Cafes, Restaurants, Ski Resorts, downtown shopping zones and other public locations in the Tahoe community. Accessing the Internet from a CommunityConnect Hotspot is simple.

What You Need to Connect To A CommunityConnect Hotspot
1. A laptop, PDA, cell phone or other form of handheld device with Wi-Fi (802.11b) wireless capability. Your existing device may already have this capability built-in. If not, you can purchase a Wi-Fi networking card for most laptops and many handhelds at any major electronics retailer.
*If you are attempting to use a hotspot but are having difficulty getting connected or getting reliable service you may wish to switch to a high power WiFi card or use a small external antenna. This will improve your performance considerably. In Old Town Truckee, for example, the farther you get away from the center of old town, the more difficult it is to connect.

2. Web Browser - You can use any standard Internet-ready browser on any operating system. No additional software is required.

3. Subscription - Launch your browser at any CommunityConnect hotspot location and follow the directions to pay for your subscription.

Connecting To A CommunityConnect Hotspot
First step: While at an Exwire Hotspot location configure your Wi-Fi enabled device to connect to Exwire's network by simply setting the SSID (network name) to 'exwire' Start the configuration application for your wireless device (if not Windows XP) and type 'exwire' in the SSID (network name). If your WiFi device has a scan utility you can scan for available networks and connect to the network that appears as 'exwire'. Windows XP automatically searches for wireless networks once you have installed the wireless card.

Second step: Once your device is wirelessly enabled launch your web browser and the Exwire CommunityConnect site will appear.

Third step: Follow the instructions to set-up an account and begin surfing the Internet at broadband speed.
